Upcoming Events: The Wonderful LARP of Oz - submitted by SwordDancer
Posted on Thursday, November 05 @ 20:38:24 EST (141 reads)
Prologue...

Legend speaks of Oz, a wondrous kingdom protected on all sides by a desert so deadly that it turns any living thing that touches it into sand.

For a long age, a Wicked Witch ruled Oz, crushing its many peoples in a grip of fear and oppression. Despite her armies and her magics, a Wizard from a far off land defeated her and sent her into exile in the lands of the West.

In the West, the Witch bided her time, regaining her might. In darkness, she and her minions attacked and besieged the City of Emeralds, where the Wizard ruled as regent. All might have been lost, but for the coming of a young girl from lands beyond the desert. She, and the Ozians who joined her heroic quest, broke the power of the Wicked Witch and slew her.

With the Wicked Witch destroyed, the Wizard passed his crown to the Scarecrow, widely believed to be the most intelligent creature in Oz. Then the girl and the Wizard returned by means most mysterious, to their own lands, leaving the Scarecrow to rule over a time of peace and prosperity.

Two hundred years have passed, and the Scarecrow - once again - rules over Oz. During his short reign after the fall of the Wicked Witch, he helped restore the throne of Oz to its true heir - Princess Osma; and after many years of peace and prosperity under Osma, she passed peacefully, and decreed the throne be returned to her loyal and trusted friend. The kingdom has changed much over two centuries, thanks in no small part to Queen Osma, The Scarecrow and that gathering of heroes that came from beyond its borders.

The City of Emeralds is once again a beacon of peace and culture. Witches and wizards have come from throughout Oz and have built schools dedicated to the furtherment of their craft.

The Wizard left behind many records of strange Sciences and cunning Devices, which have been studied and improved upon by those of the Tinsmith-trade. This has led to the creation of a complex art of steam and gears, whose power rivals that of magic.

The Constructs, those timeless servants of Oz, have become more common in the land. While only a scant few, like the Scarecrow, are beings animated by the Powder of Life, many others are once living creatures saved and given new life by the Wizard's Sciences. They are called the Tin Men, beings sustained by complicated machines and strange devices.

The animals in Oz have always been able to talk, but now they have taken on the trappings of civilization. Most wear clothes and carry weaponry, like any other respectable Ozian. Those of the animals who can use the powers of Witchery still struggle to overcome the stigma that the Wicked Witch has put upon all of their kind.

Now The Lands north of The City of Emeralds are in peril once again and a new summons from the Scarecrow King is put forth:

"Adventurers from all across Oz, bring your might be it sword, spell or craft to aide this troubled land. Beasts have become uncommonly savage, Constructs have begun malfunctioning, Rumors of a terrible power amassing strength are whispering among the other territories. The time for the great deeds of heroes has returned."

Announcements: Lullaby of Broadway 3 now available for Registration! - submitted by buggy
Posted on Sunday, October 25 @ 06:16:31 EDT (181 reads)
Lullaby of Broadway Episode 3 is now open for registration.

To register, log in at: http://www.interactivitiesink.com/larps/broadway and select “Into the Woods” under the “Event Registration” heading on the right of the page.

Lullaby of Broadway: Into the Woods is the third and final episode in the Lullaby of Broadway trilogy. Join us as we explore the mystical, magical, mythological side of Broadway.

This may be your last chance to play in a big, full weekend, Mike Young production!

Our third episode, Into The Woods, will be held on the weekend of October 15-17, 2010 at the Hagerstown Hotel and Convention Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Play characters from such famous musicals as:
# A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
# Camelot
# Godspell
# Into the Woods
# Jesus Christ Superstar
# Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
# Once Upon a Mattress
# Man of La Mancha
# Peter Pan
# Pippin
# Spamalot
# The Fantasticks
# The Wiz
# Wicked

Note that the selection of musicals and characters has not been finalized and musicals may be added or dropped from the list above.

While everyone will have the opportunity to sing and dance and perform on stage, it isn't mandatory. But still, strap on your shoes, put on your costume, and get ready for a game that is sure to be a toe tapping good time!

How Much Does It Cost?

Lullaby of Broadway is using the most complex pricing scheme I have ever attempted in a LARP. The base cost for an episode of Lullaby of Broadway is $100. However, in a real sense, the base cost is really $50, which is a good price for a weekend long game. You have to do some work and earn Service Credits to get the good price.

I am hoping to increase player buy-in by introducing a set of Service Credits. By helping to create props and scenery, set, take down, or do other administrative and logistical tasks, you can save money on the game.

You can see a complete list of Service Credits at http://www.interactivitiesink.com/larps/broadway/servicecredits.pl More may be added as the situation warrants.

So, you are considered confirmed for Lullaby of Broadway once you pay the $50 down payment. The rest will be due at or before the game. We'll send a list of Service Credits earned and your balance before the game, and you can always check that information here at the database.

Official Refund Policy: You may have your $50 refunded at any time until character sheets have been written (most likely the middle of August, 2010). There will be no refunds of deposits once the character sheets have been written.

However, if you need to drop after character sheets have been written, you may get a refund for your character if you can find us a replacement player.

Child Policy (this also covers teenagers)

Into the Woods is child friendly, but we strongly urge parents to read the child policy before registering their children for the event.

• We are accepting children to the game, as players or as hangers on, on a case by case basis. We reserve the right to refuse entry to any children for any reason. We reserve this right for adults as well.

• We do not expect players to censor the behavior of their characters because there are children present. Parents should understand that there may be some mature plots and events in the game. Most likely, the game will end up PG, but we cannot guarantee the actions of our players, nor do we wish to censor them.

• Parents are responsible for their children at all times. Neither the GMs nor other players are responsible for your kids in any way, including their entertainment. Especially disruptive children will be asked to leave game space. This is true of especially disruptive adults as well.

• Certain characters in the game are traditionally played by children or early teens. We will make these characters available to child/early teen players; however, as a parent, you are responsible for your child. These characters are full game characters and we will not reduce the price for them, although children/early teens can earn Service Credit just like adults. As a parent, we ask that you determine that your child has sufficient maturity, attention span, and willingness to share the spotlight to play a full character before signing him or her up to play the game.

• Some child/early teen characters are traditionally played by adults (Peter Pan for example). These characters may be played by adults or children in the game. Adults will not be cast in these roles unless they specifically say they are willing to play alongside of children.

• We will also have minor hangers-on characters for children, such as the Mayor's children in Seussical the Musical. These characters will be available to children free of cost, but the parents would be expected to play the part of the characters responsible for the children.

• Parents are also welcome to bring their children to the game as non-players. Non-player children must be under the observation of their parents at all times. This is really for very young children who are not ready to even play small parts in the game.

• We will not have special activities or plots for children or early teenagers. Any child/early teen players would expect to join the game as full characters.

• You are responsible for your child's diet. We cannot prepare special meals for your child. (This assumes we are serving a meal at all, which we are not for Episode 3)

• Please do not breastfeed or change your child's diaper or in game space. The game is taking place at a hotel where there are ample locations outside of game space for those activities. Thanks!

Announcing "The Roar Of Distant Dragons", a weekend-long boffer LARP adventure.

http://www.anstarra.com/events/event2.html

Where: Charlton, MA (at yeoldecommons.com, with comfortable heated cabins).

When: October 16-18 (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon).

Why: To have an incredible time, mixing new players with those from existing larps in the area.

Who: Anstarra.com -- dedicated to combining the fun and simple rules of boffer fighting clubs together with the deep immersion and tension of weekend-long role-playing adventures.

Plot Summary: The Oracle of Rynnaven foretold that Duke Ragnar, the reigning leader of Nygaard, would die by dragon attack during the black moon after the first frost of 1209. Dragons have not been seen in Anstarra in over 500 years. Nevertheless, Duke Ragnar needs help to prevent this prophecy from coming true.

Upcoming Events: Twin Realms, run September 19th, Portland Oregon - submitted by Wyqued
Posted on Saturday, August 29 @ 11:38:47 EDT (282 reads)
You're dead.
That's right.
A pair of lovers and their good friend (or some unfortunate soul that was around them at the time) have died and gone to... an afterlife.
Where? Why? What happened to your partner?
You'll have to find out, while trying to figure out other mysteries and avoid being destroyed or thwarted in your efforts to reunite with your love.
In this game everyone will be either one of a pair of deceased lovers or their good friend (yes, there will be several groups of three characters to choose from). The pairs are known from movies and books. And, there will be a twist that you will find out at game (something that all Twin Realms games will have in common in the future).

This game will be as serious or lighthearted as each player wishes to make it. There will be elements of romance, tragic romance, jealousy, treason, love, passion, confusion, loss, frustration, comedy, tragedy, drama and all those other things that make love and death so much fun.
As far as system goes, it will have a rock-paper-scissors base with a couple of minor twists and modifiers.
To find out more about the game, please visit our forum at: http://shaglarp.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=466&sid=a95dc308e8c3e3d18831ef798491839b

Travelers meet again upon the roads of Fate. The laughter of friends, the promise of adventure and coin, the mystery of an unfamiliar place beckon onward to an unknown destination. Outside, as the light begins to fade and the lamps are lit, shades are drawn across the flame. The light spills from the windows in seemingly deliberate patterns of utter darkness and purest light... An Ancient Text Revealed and Re-Examined

The story of Longinus is not a secret story, although some would hide it. But neither is it an open story. It requires study. It requires respect. To some it is the final source of wisdom, freedom, survival. To others it is an evil book, the source of all oppression. No matter what viewpoint you hold, the fact remains that the Testament of Longinus cannot be ignored.

It is our history.

- Henry Matthews, Editor of the Revised Edition

A PDF-exclusive Chronicle Book for Vampire: The Requiem

• An “artifact” book detailing the tenets of the Longinian faith.
• Can be used as a prop in any Vampire: The Requiem or Mind’s Eye Theatre: The Requiem game, or can be used by Storytellers and players as a resource from which to draw new roleplay and story ideas.

To those with the wisdom to read the signs, the quality of the light and the scent of the air can inform them of the nature of the impending tempest.
